Apple Pie

“Ha ha, that’s so funny, Jerry!”

The Lich grunted. The hairs of his beard tugged as the strange little robot continued to tie them into braids, standing on a number of skulls as a makeshift ladder, taking his sweet time as he chattered meaningless nonsense. The little bot didn’t even seem to notice the eeriness of the cave, as his only priority was his careful braiding and keeping his balance on the pile of bones.

“Jake was also very funny. He would be like ‘Finn! We are going on an adventure!’ And then, they would be gone. But, they always come back.”

“Mmm.”

Finally, the little robot finished his work, tying the braid with some leftover hair tie he found in the rubbish of the outlands.

“Aaaaand – there! Good as new! Now you look so pretty, Jerry.”

The large being’s singular eye glanced down at the bot’s handiwork. “Mm.”

“You are welcome, Jerry!” The bot gathered his brush and extra hair ties and hopped down the skulls like a child skipping down a staircase. “Always to be of service!”

The little bot placed his belongings into a small knapsack of a bag. He came back over to the Lich and shook his hand. “You are a very patient customer, Jerry. BMO will give you kiss for being a good boy.” The robot pressed his screen to the Lich’s hand for a short amount of time. If he were back in his prime, whenever that was before the wish was granted, the bot would’ve been obliterated by this very hand. He did not know why he let the bot live.

The bot happily blushed as he lifted his screen, hid his giggles behind his hands, ran to his sack, threw it over his shoulder, and staggered towards the mouth of the cave. As he was about to leave, he turned around and shouted, “Til next time, Jerry! I will bring us a fresh apple pie! It is very apple-y!”

And then the bot left. The ancient being stared at the hole in the cave. He touched the hand the bot held and smothered. Then he touched his braids.

“Yes…til next time…child…”
